Makarska riviera

Makarska Riviera is a very popular tourist destination due to its natural and climate characteristics, diversity of tourist offer and the hospitality and kindness of local people. The region is part of coastal area of the middle Dalmatia. It is located under the mountain of Biokovo, and has 2.700 hours of sunny days in a year, with the average temperature higher than 20 Celsius degrees. The tourism is highly developed in this area, and there is a big potential for even higher development during the winter time. It also offers a lot of recreational options – at the land and in the sea.

Center of Makarska Riviera is the city of Makarska, with 15.000 inhabitants. On the north-western side, very popular cities to visit include: Brela, Baška Voda, Promajna, Bratuš and Krvavica. On the southeast of Makarska, there are Tučepi, Podgora, Drašnice, Igrane, Živogošće, Blato, Drvenik, Zaostrog and Gradac. There are two main landscape and natural characteristic of these areas: mountain of Biokovo and the Adriatic Sea with its natural coast.

During the summertime, all around the coast, there are different festivals organized – cultural, sport and recreational. Those are the days of traditional, local festivities, when people celebrate the Saints-protectors of the area and revive old important dates in history. All together, these activities are united under one common name – The Summer in Makarska. The most popular and the most visited are Fisherman Nights, Summer Carnival, and The Night of Kalelarga. There are many other festivities organized, such as different concerts, with foreign and local performers.
Together with the long and calm walks around the pine forests, this area is characterized with several kilometers of beautiful pebble beaches, which many consider the most beautiful beaches in the world.
